The creator of the Taj Mahal was the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who was deeply in love with Mumtaz Mahal, his third wife. Shah Jahan was the second son of the Mughal Emperor Jehangir and grandson of Akbar the Great and Mumtaz was a Muslim Persian princess (named Arjumand Banu Begum before marriage).
