Rome wasn’t built in a day… but you might actually be able to see it in one, with a little bit of luck and a lot of careful planning. Here’s an effortless itinerary to get the best possible overview of the city in just a few hours.
Start your morning off on the right foot by wearing your most comfortable walking shoes -- you can’t roam around Rome without them. Then, do as the Romans do, and perk up with a strong cup of caffè (you certainly won’t be hard pressed to find one). Your first mission after this? Catch an eyeful of the Colosseum. But, as the Romans say, Tempus Fugit (time flies) -- you’ll have no time to go inside, at least not today. Instead, skip the crowds and queues and wander up Palatine Hill, where panoramic views of the city will pack a punch.
If at this point you’re in need of light refreshment, grab a gelato from a gelaterie, making sure you sample a decidedly Italian flavor, like nocciola (hazelnut).
